BRIEF DESCRIPTION A small tree reaching 15-20 m in height, but less than 8 m when cultivated. The leaves are simple, 25-35 cm long and 6-10 cm wide. The fruit is ellipsoidal, 25 cm long, 12 cm wide, weighs up to 1.5 kg and has a strong and pleasant smell. The ripe fruit is harvested when it has fallen to the ground. USES The fruit is eaten fresh or use to prepare a drink. GROWING PERIOD Perennial. COMMON NAMES Brazilian cacao, Cupuacu, Cupuassu. FURTHER INF Cupuacu is native of Brazil, it can be found at elevations between sea level and 1000 m. It thrives on river banks and in a relative humidity of 77-88%. Mentioned as a useful agroforestry species.
